Despite the present high coffee status, not every coffee farmer globally is facing the same significance.

Those who are experiencing incredible coffee farming continue to benefit from coffee’s outstanding flavors, fresh roasting, as well as rapid online sales.

Regardless of the hard work that farmers input, the levels of poverty and starvation continue to rise. The constant selling price of 1 USD for unroasted beans contributes to the stagnation in the lives of many coffee growers.

Moreover, the change of climate in some regions contributes to the unpredictability and unsustainable farming.

In spite of all these challenges, coffee farmers should not give up.

Below are four important coffee trust organizations that continue to contribute to the significance of coffee growing among communities. These beautiful charities have gone extra miles to touch lives through their incredible contributions to coffee farming. That’s why we are excited to reveal them to you.

  1. CRS Coffeelands: Better Farming Via Water
  2. Grounds for Health: Giving Women Access To Medical Care
  3. The Coffee Trust: Helping Guatemalans Prosper
  4. Coffee Kids: Empowering The Next Generation Of Farmers

CRS Coffeelands: Better Farming Via Water

Having originated from East Africa, Latin America, and Oceana, CRS Coffeelands (Catholic Relief Services), is a charitable trust that is highly-regarded by many, including the non-religious groups. The coffee trust organization has impacted numerous farmers globally.

They carry out top-notch investigations to aid coffee groups effectively.

The Purpose of the researches includes:

  • Enhance the farming practices to manage drought and diseases efficiently
  • Increase coffee yields and grow quality crops
  • Steer eco-friendly governmental policies
  • Manage water resources responsibly to shun insecurity instances- the charity group came up with the Blue Harvest Project to eliminate water insecurity. The initiative has been incredibly useful.

For the first time since 2012, the co-operative has managed to cover both its production costs and operation while exhibiting modest gains. This is mainly due to better yields and prices. The co-operative has confirmed that patience, together with appropriate investing, will pay eventually.

Grounds for Health: Giving Women Access To Medical Care

Due to the remote location of coffee growers, they are often limited to medical care access.

The isolation continues to increase cases of untreated cervical cancer among women. Despite its 100% treatable capacity, cervical cancer still leads to a killer disease for women in developing countries. Every year, around 500,000 women die from the disease.

With the fact that 80% of the coffee cutters are women, the increased deaths from cervical cancer continue to impact the coffee industry negatively.

Grounds for health, through its Peru program, has assisted many women from the six countries it is involved with, by obtaining the treatment they need to pursue total wellness. From 2012 to date, 4487 women have been screened through the program.

How does The Grounds for Health Help Eradicate this Health Indignation?

  • Through the formulation of prevention campaigns in partnership with community leaders
  • Endorsing volunteer groups for screening in remote areas
  • Offering training opportunities for local health service providers, who can then manage to screen and care for cervical cancer patients.

The Coffee Trust: Helping Guatemalans Prosper

Guatemala experienced a civil war that ended in 1996. Afterward, the economy of the people of the lxil area, Northern Guatemala, was affected significantly. To-date, 90% of the entire population experience a poor quality of living.

Hence, Coffee Trust came up with some schemes targeted at aiding local coffee farmers within the area. These projects include:

  • Recover from the distressing coffee disease-endemic- 2014
  • Increase income earnings through crop diversification
  • Soil and ecosystem regeneration
  • Take charge of the people’s health and overall wellbeing
  • Scholarship awards to educate more children

The micro-credit program- an inspirational scheme which entails the following:

  1. A sustainable micro-credit initiative generated by the people
  2. Contains about 2000 women
  3. Planted more than 100 gardens to sustain their families
  4. Led the people to almost double their coffee produces, after experiencing crop losses of 75% due to roya fungus

The Coffee Trust was awarded the National Coffee Association Charity of the year 2019. The charitable group is still a developing coffee trust organization but has placed a significant impact in Guatemala.

Coffee Kids: Empowering The Next Generation Of Farmers

The lack of aspiring coffee farmers among the younger groups creates crises in this sector. Most children whose parents farm coffee always desire different lives, away from the farm. They believe that cities have better opportunities for them.

Coffee kids interact with young coffee growers, together with their children, to add to the financial stability of coffee growing through the following ways:

  • Linking up upcoming farmers to the already established farming mentors
  • Entrepreneurship training opportunities to generate financially-feasible farms
  • Offering business funds to farmers, especially with the lack of bank operations- one of their most significant initiatives
  • Starting up local coffee shops within the farming groups

Furthermore, the Seed Capital Fund enables farmers to obtain small commercial loans for the establishment of harmonizing businesses that make coffee farming a feasible way of living.

When the enterprises begin running smoothly, and they are financially stable, they then repay the loans, so that the upcoming groups, or even generation, can also benefit from the opportunity.
